We Can Be

My love does not possess
nor does it demand.
But it calls to me
to give all that I can
and be all that I am.

Will you be my Adam;
and I, your Eve,
so I can be
bone of your bone,
flesh of your flesh?

You can be a blade of grass,
and I can be
the first dew drop
to wake you
with a morning kiss.

You can be a mountain,
and I can be
a valley.

You can be the sunshine,
and I can
be the flower.

You can be the highway,
and I can be
the resting place.

You can be the robin,
and I can be
the song.

You—can be
a man;
and, I—I can be
a woman.
